Prof Moyo is in denial

-

EDITOR — I was appalled by Professor Jonathan Moyo’s display of denial and arrogance when he appeared on BBC’s Hard Talk programme a couple of days ago.

He chose to analyse issues selectively and it’s a shame given his level of education.

Prof Moyo wants the world to believe that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Government is illegitimate and that he is unpopular among the people of Zimbabwe.

All I can say is that Prof Moyo must have been in deep slumber when scores of people went into the streets demanding leadership renewal on November 18, 2017.

He must have been asleep when multitudes of people across the political divide and of different races thronged the National Sports Stadium to witness President Mnangagwa’s inauguration.

Given that he was in hiding, perhaps Prof Moyo did not get to see that Heads of State and diplomats also came to the inauguration in their numbers to support ED.

Congratulations also poured in from Sadc, the African Union and United Nations to the Zimbabwe Defence Forces for ably handling the transition.

Even up to today, governments across the world are sending delegations with messages of support to our President.

Therefore, for Prof Moyo to say that President Mnangagwa is not a legitimate leader and that his Government is illegally constituted is just as shocking as it is absurd.

Either Prof Moyo is in great denial or the man is trying to force the world to take his side in a matter that clearly goes beyond him.

The people appoint and (dis)appoint leaders. Remember that, Prof? The people supported Operation Restore Legacy which sought to protect that which Prof Moyo and his G40 cabal sidekicks wanted to dismantle all in pursuit of a personal agenda of higher power.

He nearly succeeded in destroying Zanu-PF from within by creating factions through various means like the media and whisper campaigns. Once the party imploded, he would have risen from the ashes to become leader minus the war veteran element which has led the party and country thus far.

Prof Moyo is well-defeated and should just accept reality.

He should come home or keep “working under the mine” wherever he is. Lovejoy Chikombingo,

Harare.
