Cut parastatal bosses’ salaries

-

EDITOR -- Government must expedite the enactment of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act and move with speed to put in place salary caps on parastatal bosses.

Legislate real figures not “frameworks” because those will be ignored.

Pass the Act and direct that, “gross salary of CEO $6 000, director $5 500, deputy director $5 000 and 100 percent medical aid plus 300 litres of fuel, vehicle worth not more than the annual gross salary”.

No other benefit shall be paid outside these figures.

If Government leaves the remuneration decisions to boards chaired by friends of the CEOs then we have not seen anything yet.

We should stop wasting time writing about these State companies in the media, but direct our efforts to pushing Government to find a tangible solution.

It is sad to hear some executives saying, under oath, that NSSA pension fund is paying $32 per month to dependants of pensioners. But when you look at the salary of that executive he or she is taking home a whopping salary of $18 000 monthly.

Until Government gets simple things right, the economic turnaround President Mnangagwa is passionately preaching will be in the pockets of these few thieves and the rest of the population will continue to suffer.
