Mazowe High hosts big day

All is set for the inaugural Mashonaland Central Career Fair to be hosted by Mazowe High School on Thursday.

THE event is promising to be huge as schools from Mashonaland Central province and beyond will converge for the fair where several organisations from across the country will be exhibiting. The career fair has also attracted the interest of three American universities.

The Career Fair will create an opportunity for learners to interact with tertiary institutions and the corporate world, giving them a chance to under- stand fully what it entails to follow a particular career path.

The Career Fair will also help to demonstrate the relevance of specific learning areas, thereby motivating learners to pursue those learning areas.

Ms Florence Mungure, who is co-ordinating the fair, said: “It’s not surprising that we have some learners who are attending school but have never given thought to which career they may want to pursue.

We expect participation of learners at this Fair to provoke them so they can start to think about possible career paths.

They should also begin to recognise their interests, talents and skills which may also inform their ultimate career choice.”

The Director of the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee, Mr Admire Masenda will be the guest of honour.

Added Ms Mungure: “The decision to invite a personality from the sporting industry was deliberate.

It resonates with the new curriculum which does not limit learners to the classroom, but encourages them to pursue careers in sport, arts and culture.”

Ms Mungure said that organisations which offer health and social services to the youth have been invited to this fair so that they take advantage of the large number of young people to disseminate information and provide services.

Some schools will also exhibit in the areas of techvoc, science, mass displays and sport so as to promote cross pollination of ideas between learners.

Those interested in participating in the fair can contact Mrs Florence T Mungure, HOD Guidance and Counselling, Mazowe High School on florence.mungure@yahoo.com or 0773208776⁄0712524914.
