Maungira Edenga takes advantage of lockdown
THE adage “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” aptly describes Maungira Edenga’s music voyage. The Kwekwe-based choral music ensemble has finished work on their third offering that is now due for release.
Led by twins Everson and Sylvester Mutema, the group intends soaring to stardom.
They believe consistency is the hallmark of success in the cut-throat music industry.
The group capitalised on the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown to complete work on their forthcoming project.
“Yes, some plans were derailed by the lockdown. But we should not always cry over spilled milk. Instead we should try and make the best of every situation presented to us,” opines Everson.
The upcoming six-track album is titled “Tinoda Jesu Chete”.
“Vazhinji Vanayo Nhaka”, “Vanotya Mwari”, “Kuchauya Kupenya”, “Jehova Tiitei Midziyo”, “Tinoda Jesu” and “Kune Vanotenda” complete the album.
Veteran dendera crooner Suluman “Sulu” Chimbetu, gospel singer Bethan Pasinawako and Congolese chanter Ariana “Dispatch” Johnson are featured on the project.
“The album is now ready for the market. We are hoping the situation improves so that we announce the launch date. But we have also capitalised on the time provided through the lockdown to shoot accompanying videos,” added Sylvester.
The twins were confidantes of the late Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo, who greatly inspired their music journey.
“NaJesu Tichaonana” and “Kuchema Kwevana ve Israeri” are titles of their other studio productions.
The group walked away with the best choral music group award at the Kwekwe Arts Merit Awards early this year.
This was their first gong in a journey spanning close to a decade.
“The music industry is a bit tricky but we are taking each day as it comes. Challenges exist but we always find a way around. Dhewa taught us a lot,” they
said.
“Initially we did not believe we could last this far, but through God’s grace, everything seems to be falling into place, and the support we are receiving from fans is tremendous. We hope to achieve more.” Maungira Edenga’s music is easy to the ear and provides messages of hope especially to troubled souls.
Meanwhile, the group has recorded a single track, “Nguva Yakaoma”, that pleads for devine mercy in the wake of the Covid19 pandemic.
“It is a prayer for the country and continent at large. God is the mighty power and it is only through him that we can either be protected or healed.
“We are urging every Zimbabwean to see power in prayer in the crisis. At the same time, we urge the public to continue following instructions from health experts to combat the spread of the virus,” said Sylvester.
