THE Zimbabwe Soccer Coaches Association is set for a major revival that will see local gaffers benefiting immensely in both labour and technical issues.

ZISCA chairman Bhekimpilo Nyoni said the association will hold elections next year.

Nyoni’s executive has in the past been accused of failing the coaches, but the BN Academy director yesterday spoke of grand plans for the association.

“If you remember we were more involved in conducting coaching courses prior to 2014, but that duty has been taken up by ZIFA.

“Now we want to be involved in helping coaches on labour issues, training and education.

“We want to change the face of coaching in Zimbabwe,” Nyoni said.

ZISCA are pushing for partnerships with the corporate world as well as various tertiary institutions in a bid to improve coaches’ educational levels.

“We want to change the face of coaching, we want our coaches to interact with other international coaches.

“Currently, we are talking to universities which have agreed to partner us in providing Sport Science short courses for our coaches.

“We want our coaches to be tech savvy, they should be up to speed with all the latest coaching trends.

“Our coaches need to be equipped with information technology skills,” said Nyoni.

Apart from Nyoni, the other members of the ZISCA national executive include vice chairman Philip Mbofana, secretary-general Oscar Mazhambe, Clemence Bhonda (treasurer), Prosper Kwenda (organising secretary) and Godfrey Paradza, who is in charge of public relations

“We have structures in all the 10 provinces and I can reveal that we will hold elections for both provincial and national executive members early next year.

“Our association has over 400 paid up members across the country,’’ Nyoni said.

Nyoni’s executive has in the past faced accusations of failing to lead coaches culminating in the formation of a rival body, the Soccer Coaches Union of Zimbabwe led by Moses Chunga.

But for all their noise, Chunga’s Union, for whom Newsome Mutema is the secretary, has been largely dormant and only seems to surface when issuing a condolence message at the passing on of a coach.
