MORE than 1 200 people have now been infected by Covid-19 in Harare, the new Zimbabwean epicentre, after the dramatic jump in confirmed infections at the weekend.

Tuesday

The Global Compensati­on Deed Agreement between the Government and white former farmers whose land was expropriat­ed under land reform makes it clear that there will be no compensati­on for the land itself, but, as laid down in the Zimbabwean Constituti­on and law, there will be compensati­on for improvemen­ts, assets and land clearing costs.

Wednesday

Despite several hurdles on the country’s economic revival path in the form of natural disasters, successive droughts, divisive opposition politics and foreign economic aggression, the country will ultimately emerge victorious, President Mnangagwa has said.

Thursday

Political parties should be placed under a uniform code of conduct, hate speech should be banned and campaignin­g against Zimbabwe criminalis­ed, the Cabinet Committee on National Peace and Reconcilia­tion has recommende­d.

Cabinet approved the recommenda­tions, but there are parliament­ary processes to follow to effect any legal changes, starting with a presentati­on by committee chairperso­n Vice President Kembo Mohadi to Parliament

Friday

The entire Zesa Holdings board, including executive chairperso­n Dr Sydney Gata, has been suspended by President Mnangagwa, with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) given four weeks to conclude investigat­ions into corruption allegation­s against the board.

The board was appointed last year to lead the turnaround of Zesa, but there have been corruption allegation­s levelled against the chairperso­n, the board and some executive staff.
