But in Zimbabwe we have a man who has successful­ly built his empire and we get elements that try to pull him down.

Gerald Phiri on ‘Rogue jumbo terrorises Kariba’ — When these animals begin confrontin­g human beings, we need to investigat­e the cause. The elephant population in Zimbabwe is no longer sustainabl­e. We have had campaigns to CITES (the Convention on Internatio­nal Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) to allow us to cull our elephant herd, but it appears the grouping decided to politic over the issue. They know if we trade the tasks of our jumbos, we will get revenue and that is what they do not want. Havatide vanhu ava!
