AS the Zimbabwe Amalgamated Council of Churches, we find it disturbing and disgusting to note that some of our colleagues fail to distinguish the role of the church and politics.

We believe, like any country in the world, we have our own share of problems.

But the problems are not at a big scale that calls for one to climb to the top of a mountain and send a distress signal.

Compared to many countries, Zimbabwe is peaceful and stable.

These are the conditions we want to maintain for the development of our nation.

It should be known that we might have different faiths and beliefs, but individually we harbour political affiliations.

In that regard, we call for those in the church to first remove their robes when they want to dabble in politics.

By so doing, they will be treated with a political hand by those they seek to confront in politics.

There should be a clear demarcation when some members of the Catholic and Evangelical churches make their pronouncements.

They should be careful not to make utterances on behalf of congregants because these followers, outside the church, also support certain political parties.

While we should be praying for the nation to prosper, others find time to denigrate the country and its leadership.

Why not let politicians denigrate one another for political mileage?

Why use the sacred institution of the Church to seek a change in political leadership?

These men of the cloth have no shame and must be whipped back into line.

They should know that other nationals in some countries wish for the peace and stability they see in Zimbabwe.

It is time we learn that our problems can only be solved in-house.

Whenever we invite foreigners, we are just exposing ourselves.

President Mnangagwa’s administration is working hard to ensure that everyone enjoys peace.

It has worked hard during the current coronavirus pandemic period to ensure that everyone from various political, economic, social and religious circles is protected.

While others are busy finding solutions to Covid-19, it baffles the mind to note that we have some in our midst who are preaching unfounded claims of human rights abuses.

As the Zimbabwe Amalgamated Council of Zimbabwe, we say let us all put our heads together in prayer for our leadership, peace, unity and stability.

Once again, those seeking a dance with politics must first remove their religious robes.
