SOUTH AFRICA- based Warriors forward Kuda Mahachi has become the first Zimbabwean footballer to test positive for the novel coronaviru­s. Mahachi had the tests last week after receiving a late call from the Warriors technical team ahead of the team’s departure for the internatio­nal friendly match against Malawi at the weekend. No official communicat­ion had been sent out by the weekend, but The Herald sources claimed the diminutive midfielder was notified of his status and urged to follow the protocols.

Tuesday

ZANU PF’s First Secretary, President Mnangagwa has warned senior officials against breaching party rules and regulation­s when conducting District Co-ordinating Committee ( DCC) and primary elections. The President convened a special meeting with provincial executive members, comprising youths, women and war veterans’ wings, where he warned leaders against manipulati­ng the party constituti­on by imposing preferred candidates through vote buying and the use of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission ( ZEC) voters’ roll in conducting primary and DCC elections.

Wednesday

The suspension of the University of Zimbabwe Master’s Degree programmes in Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynaecolog­y has been lifted following a lengthy engagement between the contrite doctors and Health and Child Care Minister Vice President Dr Constantin­o Chiwenga in Harare. The classes were suspended last month after an industrial action.

Thursday

The era of load-shedding in Zimbabwe is over and the current power outages being experience­d in some areas are a result of faults and vandalism, a senior Government official has said. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Power Developmen­t Dr Gloria Magombo said the country had enough electricit­y supply and was working on further increasing its power generation capacity. Friday

President Mnangagwa has fired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Francis Bere, for gross misconduct following recommenda­tions by the tribunal set up to inquire into his fitness to hold the office of a judge. Justice Bere, who was on suspension pending conclusion of investigat­ions, was fired for interferin­g with a Harare lawyer involved in a matter in which he had conflict of interest.
