Artistes should have financial literacy

- Manu Goronga.

THE lockdown affected up to 95 percent of creatives all over the world.

Musicians and artistes are some of the most affected by Covid-19 because their revenue streams from shows and gigs dried up.

It’s a very gloomy period in the showbiz industry.

The case in which Lady Squanda was arrested for armed robbery involving a mere US$20 shows the extent to which our artistes are enmeshed.

As a concerned youth studying towards becoming a creative, I urge all the artistes to create another stream of income.

I appeal to all the creatives and artistes to be entrepreneurial.

Jah Prayzah, Killer T, Winky D and Enzo Ishall are good examples of artistes who have not only invested in the showbiz industry but entrepreneurship.

That way we will not have such disgraceful scenarios where prominent celebrities stoop so low.

We expect better if not best investments from female celebrities like Lady Squanda.

The industry is no longer kind the world over, hence we always see other artistes launching different products and businesses.

It’s high time artistes stop depending on live shows and concerts and start living off the promoters.

Ministry of Arts Sports and Culture start can assist by providing seminars on financial literacy, managing finances and human resources.

Doing this will help eradicate poverty among artistes.
