Pitso stays grounded

-

AL first team manager, Pitso Mosimane, said that he’s happy with his side’s performance against Wydad, but believes they have to quickly start preparing for the final.

Mosimane was speaking after Al Ahly qualified for the CAF Champions League final for the first time since the 2017-2018 season, where they lost to Esperance Sportive de Tunis.

Under Mosimane, the Reds were able to earn two convincing wins against Wydad Casablanca in the semis, with the latest courtesy of Friday night’s 3-1 victory at home. The Red Devils got off to the perfect start as they broke the deadlock through Marwan Mohsen just five minutes into the encounter.

Amr Al Sulaya played a delightful through pass for Mohsen, who made no mistake as he beat Wydad goalkeeper Ahmed Tagnaouti to make it 1-0 to Al Ahly.

The Emperors were at that stage trailing 3-0 on aggregate and they had to dig deep in order to overturn the three-goal deficit on the night.

Al Ahly did not sit back after taking the lead as they continued to launch attacks with Junior Ajayi forcing Tagnaouti into a great save in the 14th minute.

Despite the positive result, which saw the African giants win 5-1 on aggregate, the South African manager believes that they should start preparing for the final now.

“We performed well in both home and away games against Wydad,” said Mosimane. “We played better in the first leg but we still haven’t reached the level I’m aspiring for, also our passing wasn’t on point.” — — Kingfut.com/SuperSport.
