BancABC in charity drive

-

LOCAL bank, BancABC Zimbabwe, is stepping up efforts to support vulnerable groups in the country after launching the second edition of the 777 Campaign for charity.

Under the 777 Campaign, the bank identifies seven communities which will receive seven acts of kindness.

BancABC chief executive Dr Lance Mambondiani said the charity initiative, which started during the just-ended festive season, will spill into the new year.

“Through the 777 campaign, in the seven days leading up to Christmas, the Group nominated and supported seven of our customers who were already actively involved in seven different community initiatives. That is why we called it 777, seven days, seven customers and seven communities,” he said.

Dr Mambondiani said the initiatives include helping vulnerable members of society in the fight against Covid-19 during the current Level Four lockdown.

“Zimbabwe and other countries have rightfully enforced national lockdown measures as the surge of new infections in hindsight of a new deadlier strand exponentially increasing deaths and new infections. BancABC’s charitable gesture and those from the Zimbabwean business community (who are) fighting the virus are a glimmer of good hope during uncertain dark times.

“2020 was different because we had all been disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The focus for 2020 was therefore deliberately biased towards providing personal, protective, equipment (PPE) that will protect people against Covid-19.

“In this edition we supported Sally Mugabe Children’s Ward and Edith Opperman Antenatal Clinic with PPE.

“However, we will still be supporting vulnerable groups including the elderly and orphaned in collaboration with churchbased charities such as Gweru Diocese and Forgotten Voices,” said Dr Mambondiani.
