Monday
A 32-year-old woman from Neshuro in Mwenezi, south of Masvingo, allegedly fatally axed her husband and daughter before committing suicide following a row over the upkeep of her in-laws. Florence Nhotito of Paringira Village in the Makurirofa area of Neshuro allegedly killed her husband Simbarashe Butete and daughter Leander (3) in cold blood on Saturday before hanging herself from a tree, about 3km from her homestead.
Tuesday
Police have suspended four officers for failing to enforce lockdown regulations on New Year’s eve, resulting in a Harare-based disc jockey, DJ Fantan, hosting a music show attended by hundreds of people at Matapi Flats in Mbare, right next to the local police station.
Wednesday
President Mnangagwa has described the Level Four lockdown period, which began yesterday (Tuesday) to stop the spread of Covid-19, as the final push towards the defeat of the deadly pandemic. Zimbabwe announced a nationwide curfew from 6pm to 6am, banned gatherings, inter-city travel and ordered non-essential businesses to close for a month in an effort to curb a surge in coronavirus infections.
Thursday
Government has set aside $7 billion for fighting the coronavirus, with authorities calling for the tightening of restrictions to control the geographical spread of the disease. This follows a spike in infections this week (last week) when Zimbabwe recorded 1 365 positive cases and 34 deaths on Tuesday alone, amid reports of non-compliance with Covid-19 regulations in many parts of the country.
Friday
Four armed robbers made off with US$ 2,5 million and $40 000 in dramatic fashion after they had reportedly been offered a lift by a security company cashin-transit vehicle. The incident, which has seen three suspects being arrested and assisting police with investigations, occurred on Wednesday around 2pm along the Harare-Chinhoyi Road near Gwebi River Bridge.
