Koffi Olomide, Mafikizolo clash in ‘African Explosion’

- Theseus Shambare

KADOMA will be the place to be on April 15 as international rhumba giant Koffi Olomide shares the stage with two of Southern Africa’s finest musicians.

South Africa’s Mafikizolo and Zimbabwe’s Jah Prayzah will showcase their talent at the show dubbed the “African Explosion”.

Olomide last visited the country in 2021 and did a collaboration on the hit song “Patati Patata” with Rockford “Roki” Josphat.

This will, however, be the Congolese musician’s first time to perform in the mining town.

On the other hand, Mafikizolo and Jah Prayzah have, in the past, performed at the Odyssey.

In 2019, the two giants clashed at the same venue and created lasting memories for the Kadoma residents.

Prince Mharadze of Odyssey Entertainment confirmed that the much-loved artistes are, indeed, coming to the mining town.

“We proudly bring to Zimbabwe two African musical giants.

“This show is going to be an African explosion,” Mharadze said.

In October last year, the same venue hosted South African dancing sensation Makhadzi and Jah Prayzah.

Odyssey Events, which is an offshoot of 2 Kings Entertainment, is determined

to bring as many international artistes to Kadoma as possible.

“I said this before and I am going to say it again.

“Gone are the days when international stars would only perform in Harare and Bulawayo,” Mharadze said.

According to Mharadze, the April show brings with it diversity.

“We are going to bring artistes from three different music genres and fans are definitely going to enjoy this diversity.

In other words, the fans are spoilt for choice,” added Mharadze.

Rhumba music still has a large following in Zimbabwe.

Koffi Olomide, who was born Antoine Christophe Agbepa, commands a huge following in Zimbabwe and the Southern African region.

Meanwhile, the Kadoma Music Festival, which has been slated for October 14, will see several international artistes taking to the stage.
