A blend of ghetto, upmarket experience

THE Platinum Pub and Grill restaurant has become a place to be for merrymakers in Harare.

Located in Glen Norah A, the place is simply irresistible.

Perhaps this is because the joint offers a unique experience — talk of a blend of both worlds, the ghetto and uptown.

Apart from its chicness, the joint is winning the hearts of many due to favourable prices, top-class service and good music selection. One can be tempted to compare it to Mzansi’s Konka Soweto.

The South African club is known for being posh, a feature that makes it draw huge attendance, including top figures from various fields.

The only difference is that prices are a bit steep at Konka Soweto when compared to the local joint offering a similar experience.

The joint owner, Matthias Zvidzai, believes blending the ghetto and upmarket experiences has given them an edge on the market.

“The pub was officially opened a year ago, with a special performance by Holy Ten,” said Zvidzai.

“We are now living in a modern world, where there are no boundaries. Stellar entertainment and modern recreational facilities are now in demand, hence, we are coming up with innovative concepts.”

Platinum Pub and Grill has spacious parking areas, with tight security.

A vibrant braai area and a food corner, where different types of cuisines are served, is part of the overall setup.

The two VIP sections are well-designed and quickly capture one’s attention upon arrival.

There is also a balcony sitting area that offers patrons the opportunity to enjoy fresh air while enjoying their food and drinks in peace.

The experience becomes amazing at night as one gets to fully appreciate the beauty of stars.

“Merrymakers do not need to pay to access the facility yet we have still managed to maintain high standards.

“Our main thrust is to cater for everyone. We want people from different walks of life to enjoy first-class entertainment, food and drink, without worrying about entrance fees,” he said.

The joint, Zvidzai notes, creates a perfect networking platform.

“We connect individuals of different social and financial standing. But, inside the pub, we have a spacious VIP area to cater for those who want extra comfort.

“The food we serve is different from many other joints because we have our own way of preparing the dishes,”he said.

Apart from offering a perfect outing option, Platinum Pub and Grill has also created employment for many youths in Glen Norah and surrounding areas.

The joint owner hopes to keep expanding operations while keeping abreast with global entertainment trends.

Plans are afoot to open three more joints in Harare, before expanding to other cities and towns around the country.
