Bishop Mutendi urges ZCC diasporans to keep the faith

HEAD of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi has urged members living in foreign lands to maintain their faith in God and never waver in their belief.

Speaking at the just-ended ZCC North America Ungano Conference held in the United States, Bishop Mutendi challenged those in the diaspora to feed off the word of God and desist from dependence on social media, which he said could lead them astray.

The conference ran from September 15 to 17.

“Do you still have the same faith as you did when you crossed over to the United States of America?

“Your capacity to differentiate between social media news and the word of God, which is broadcast live on the church’s social media platforms, will determine whether or not you remain steadfast,” he said.

“Be aware of what you follow or listen to.

“Does it liberate you or leave you in bondage?”

He encouraged conference attendees, especially those raising families in the diaspora, not to lose their identity and culture.

Bishop Mutendi urged them to teach their children Zimbabwean languages and not to depart from Christian ways.

Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Bishop Mutendi has been delivering his message to believers via social media platforms thrice a week.

Last Sunday’s live broadcast was his 630th.

In recent years, ZCC has helped over 60 students to study in the US through the church’s education support programmes.

The church has also awarded bursaries to thousands of tertiary education students, and extended aid to the needy through its charity arm — the Rugare Community Relief Services.

The Ungano Conference, which was part of Bishop Mutendi’s tour of Europe and America, coincided with his 84th birthday, which he celebrated from the pulpit.
