TOP long-distance runners Moses Tarakinyu and Olivia Chitate are expected to headline a cast of high-profile athletes at the inaugural Musabvunda-Moonlight marathon in Harare on Saturday.

Musabvunda, a fitness entity, have partnered funeral service providers Moonlight for the 21km race.

Black Rhinos athlete and holder of the Tanganda and Econet Victoria Falls half-marathon titles has registered, as he angles for a hat-trick of titles this year.

Chitate, who also retained her Tanganda title early this year, as well as Melody Chikonzi, will also take part in the event.

“Because of what we have done as Musabvunda, many corporates have entrusted us with organising their events and help them on the technical side to achieve what we have always said about a healthy nation being a productive nation,” said Kudzai Pasipanodya of Musabvunda Fitness.

“In July, as Musabvunda, we partnered with the Airforce of Zimbabwe for the Commanders Charity Cheer Fund half-marathon . . .

“Now, we have another upcoming event in which we have partnered with Moonlight in what they have themed ‘run for health’, which is also more of a charity fundraising event.

“Races on the day include 3km, 5km, 10km and 21km.

“We have a very high level and competent list of athletes that have already registered for the Moonlight Marathon.”

Tendai Zimuto and Prosper Mutiro are also among the list of those expected to take to the road.

“The work that we have done . . . has led corporates to come and partner us as we have proved in the past that we can organise something that is strong and formidable. “We believe in excellence, we believe in productivity and full capitalisation, hence, we try by all means that everything that we do, we do it perfectly and wholeheartedly.”

Registration closes this week and the organisers are working on the individual prizes that will be at stake.
