Fun-filled World Tourism Day celebrations
ALL roads led to Mutoko on September 27 for this year’s edition of World Tourism Day celebrations that ran under the theme “Tourism and Green Investments”.
The event was graced by Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Barbra Rwodzi. She led a team from her ministry, as well as the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.
Also present was Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Aplonia Munzverengwi.
The celebrations were held at Suskwe Lodge, which is well-known for its unique environment, eye-catching structures and preservation of trees around its vast area.
The lodge is a marvel and provides a breath of fresh air, especially for those coming from highly polluted areas.
This is a place that brings you closer to nature as natural resources have been used to beautify the establishment.
This probably explains why people who visit the hidden tourist attraction often fail to resist Kodak moments. This is indeed a jewel of Mutoko!
Among the guests were key tourism players and officials from higher learning institutions that included Chinhoyi University of Technology, Marondera University of Agricultural Science and Technology, Zimbabwe Open University, Gweru Polytechnic, Nyadire Teachers College and Tabudiririra Training Centre.
Schools included Munashe Private High, Edward Jack Academy and Mutoko Government.
The event was open to the public, and members of the Mutoko community attended in huge numbers. In keeping with the theme, Green T-shirts received from organisers of the event were part of the dress code.
There was entertainment galore as singers, mainly budding Zimdancehall chanters, took turns to entertain guests. Traditional dance groups also delivered top-shelf performances that left many clamouring for more.
The need to green up our environment was adequately emphasised.
Ministers Rwodzi and Munzverengwi had the opportunity to tour exhibition stands.
A sumptuous lunch was later served, courtesy of Eat and Lick. This was indeed a memorable and special occasion for Mutoko district, and Mashonaland East province at large.
Mutoko has a lot to offer as a destination. In view of this, it needs such events to promote its tourism products and cultural heritage. The area boasts of the famous Mutemwa shrine, among other attractions.
