■ Police identify Southerton armed robbers

FUGITIVE suspected killer Peter Dube — who is wanted by police after allegedly fatally shooting two people and attempting to kill another in 2021 following a misunderstanding over an alleged adulterous relationship — is expected to be extradited into the country from Mozambique “within the next few days”, police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga has confirmed.

Dube, who fled the country to settle in Ireland under a false identity after the incident, was recently deported to Mozambique from the European nation after being convicted of violating the country’s immigration laws.

He was deported to Mozambique after falsely claiming he was a citizen of the neighbouring country going by the name of Armando Quenete Muchanga.

Currently, Dube is in the custody of Mozambican law-enforcement authorities who are investigating how he acquired a local passport that saw him assuming a new identity.

In an interview yesterday on the sidelines of the Interpol centenary celebrations held in conjunction with the Police Commissioner-General Funfair in Harare, Com-Gen Matanga said Interpol will assist with the extradition process.

“Through Interpol, we managed to bring back criminals who had run away from the country,” he said.

“I will give an example of one former police officer (Jaison Muvevi), who shot and killed people in Hwedza and crossed into Mozambique and through our co-operation as the Interpol family, we managed to extradite him. “That criminal was brought back.

“Of late, we have one (Peter) Dube, who was deported from Ireland into Mozambique and within the next few days, I hope he will be brought back into the country through our friendship with Interpol.”

Dube, who was a car dealer in Gweru, allegedly shot Shelton Chinhango and his wife’s best friend Gamuchirai Mudungwe.

He then allegedly turned the gun on his second wife Nyasha Nharingo’s sister, Nyaradzo.

After the incident, Dube reportedly fled to South Africa, before relocating to Eswatini, where he changed his identity to Xolile Mtsali.

From Eswatini, he travelled to Ireland, where he sought asylum.

He was then arrested in Ireland on June 14 this year after The Sunday Mail published an exposé on how he escaped.

Net closes in on Southerton robbers

Meanwhile, police have positively identified the four armed robbers who pounced on a motorist in Southerton, Harare, last week in a shocking incident that was captured by the vehicle’s dashboard camera.

Speaking on the sidelines of the same event, police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “The ZRP is conducting investigations into the robbery that occurred in the Southerton area about two days ago where we are following the leads.

“We want to say it is premature for people on social media to say the suspects have been arrested. What I can conclusively say is that we are pursuing some leads and either today (Saturday) or tomorrow, we will publish a statement on the progress made.

“So far, we have identified the suspects, so it is work in progress. The arrests are imminent.”

Asst Com Nyathi confirmed the authenticity of pictures of the suspects circulating on social media.
