AFRO-FUSION singer Andy Muridzo

is set to officially unveil a new album, “Mhepo Yechando”, at Steak House in Harare on December 2, 2023.

The 15-track album will be the Jeetaz Band founder’s seventh studio effort and features collaborations with gifted singers Holy Ten and Mbeu. The launch will be graced by Mbeu, Romeo Gasa, Carlos Green and Shinsoman.

Baba Keketso — as Andy Muridzo is affectionately known by his fans — has been sampling some of the new tracks during live shows.

“This time around, my compositions were inspired by the winter season; temperatures were lower than what we have been accustomed to in the past years,” said the “Dherira” hitmaker, who has since reunited with his former manager, Gift Petro.

The forthcoming album is their first project working together since they split some years back.

“It was cold and windy, so I composed something pertaining to the ‘new’ weather patterns.”

The album was partially done in contemporary beats, while the traditional Muridzo touch was maintained in some of the compositions. It also has a number of love songs, probably inspired by the singer’s marriage to his longtime sweetheart Rumbidzai, earlier in May.

He also sings about life’s hardships and dedicates a song or two to worship.

“From my observations, it feels like we are expecting a newborn baby. Everyone is excited and overwhelmed, and you can tell from the whole vibe around the launch. There is going to be a huge difference from our previous launches; we are coming in with a different feel this time. The collaborations are also something rare that I decided to do for my fans and the timing of the launch was strategic,” said Muridzo.

The Jeetaz Band frontman has of late been spending more time in the studio, putting final touches to the “new baby”. His last two efforts “Sango neDziva” and “Zunza” were well-received and the musician intends to go a notch higher.

“The album is as good as ready for the market. We have tried to be as thorough as possible. We want to deliver the best for our fans. The lyrics and instruments are just out of this world,” he said.

“There has been more pressure this time because we needed a flawless product. I am happy because everything is coming together. I looked at my previous mistakes and worked on them. I had to do something on launch venues, the target audience and the evolving international market, and also consider generations that surround me in coming up with the album, hence the choice of collaborations and launch date.”
