Cabinet yesterday approved principles of the Criminal Law (Codificati­on and Reform) Amendment Bill that will criminalis­e sexual activity with a child below the age of 18 as the Government seeks to harmonise laws relating to the age of sexual consent.

While the Constituti­on defines children as those below the age of 18, the Criminal Law (Codificati­on and Reform)

Act defines a young person as one who is below 16 years, thereby creating a gap in the law that would possibly expose children above 16 to sexual exploitati­on.

Adherence to ethical mining practices, coupled with value addition and beneficiat­ion of minerals, will enable Zimbabwe to derive maximum benefits from its natural resources for shared prosperity among its people, President Mnangagwa said yesterday.

The cocktail of tax measures introduced by Finance, Economic Developmen­t and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube yesterday in the 2024 Budget strike a balance between providing relief to workers by raising the thresholds of tax-free income and bonuses, and bolstering Government revenues to finance economic developmen­t.

The tax measures are part of a comprehens­ive strategy aimed at easing the financial burden on taxpayers and using fiscal policy to tame speculatio­n.
