STUDENTS who graduate from institutions of higher learning should use their knowledge to solve real-life problems and develop the country, an academic has said.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony for over 40 students at the Africa Leadership and Management Academy (ALMA), executive dean of the Faculty of Commerce at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Dr Peter Nkala said students should capitalise on the Education 5.0 model championed by Government.

“In keeping with the spirit of the heritage Education 5.0 philosophy, I urge you to continue fine-tuning your programmes and activities to advance the innovation and industrialisation agenda.

“As adult learners already engaged in managerial positions in industry and commerce, I challenge the scholars to use the knowledge gained to go out and solve the problems of industry towards the attainment of the national vision of a prosperous, empowered upper middle-income society by 2030.”

Dr Nkala said ALMA is playing an important role through training of senior civil servants.

“The role you keep playing under Education 5.0 through consulting with various players in the economy to solve real-life problems is something that the leadership should be applauded. Your footprint in the civil space cannot be ignored.”

Dr Nkala, who was guest of honour at the graduation ceremony, said ALMA plays a unique role in education, as its curriculum goes beyond knowledge but inculcates Christian principles that conventional education does not address.

HARARE CITY COUNCIL’S vehicle parking management subsidiary, City Parking, has collected over US$3 million in parking fines and fees this year. It undertook an aggressive parking enforcement campaign in Harare’s central business district in June, targeting vehicles parked in bus lanes and designated loading zones, sparking a public uproar.“In terms of the street parking fees, we have collected US$2,1

ALMA’s executive director Dr Moses Chundu said the institution’s partnership with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission is working well following development of the country’s homegrown corruption index.

“We have continued to work with the Public Service Academy in developing leaders of integrity through the training of senior civil servants at ZIPAM (Zimbabwe Institute of Public Administration and Management). To date, a little over 1 000 have been trained,” he said.

A total of 43 students graduated at this million and this is what we remitted to council,” said City Parking public relations officer Mr Francis Mandaza.

“In terms of enforcement fees, we collected US$1,1 million.

“Since the first quarter of this year, we have started aggressive enforcement of regulations, in terms of finding offenders.

year’s ceremony in the four categories of MBA (Masters in Business Administration) in Leadership and Management; Masters of Science in Governance and Leadership; Certificate in Leadership and Management; and Certificate in Agribusiness Development and Management.

ALMA is a leadership school for mature learners that was born out of a need for leaders of integrity to spearhead Africa’s transformation from spiritual, social and moral bankruptcy, as well as economic oppression.

“So, all in all, we have remitted about US$3,4 million for 2023, including revenue from other sources.”

He said City Parking was facing challenges in handling parking space barons.

Mr Mandaza said City Parking had engaged the police to deal with the touts.

“There have been some arrests, but this problem persists as the police cannot man parking areas full-time because they have other things to attend to,” he said.
