Proweb celebrates women achievers

-

IN recognition of ordinary Zimbabwean women reaching for the stars, Professional Women, Women Executives and Business Women’s Forum (PROWEB) hosted its annual PROWEB Women Achievers Awards on December 7 in Harare.

The objective of the awards, initiated in 2012, is to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of women across various sectors of the economy.

This year, running under the theme “Achievements and Excellence of Women”, the awards highlighted and honoured 33 women who demonstrated exceptional prowess and accomplishments in diverse categories.

PROWEB acting director Catherine Nyatara noted: “PROWEB, as a women’s organisation, stands as a testament to the celebration of women’s achievements and successes. We firmly believe in the transformative power of these accomplishments, viewing them as tools that inspire other women and young girls to aim for the stars, much like our emblem of a woman reaching celestial heights.”

The guest of honour — Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Deputy Minister Dr Jennifer Mhlanga — said: “Women across the globe face almost similar challenges in attaining leadership roles. This is an opportunity to celebrate women who have defied societal norms, overcome insurmountable obstacles and pushed for positive change in their respective fields.”

“It is said it is easy to sit up and take notice. What is difficult is standing up and taking action. Today, we are celebrating the fact that someone stood up and took that action. Today, we are celebrating enthusiasm, commitment and sheer hard work. Of course, we are still some way off from gender equality, not just in Zimbabwe, but also around the world. However, recognising these achievements brings us closer together.”

“For those that have done amazing things over the past year whom we are celebrating tonight and next year, we want to celebrate you again, having done much more. When the opportunities knock, believe it is possible for you to do more, open the door and let that opportunity come through, embrace it and the rest will follow,” PROWEB president Tendayi Hlupo-Mamvura said.

“In conclusion, the PROWEB Women Achievers Awards stand as a beacon of inspiration, showcasing the remarkable accomplishments of women across diverse fields. As we look ahead to the upcoming 2024 edition, we encourage and invite women from all walks of life to join this empowering platform. Let us collectively celebrate and amplify the achievements and excellence of women, fostering a supportive community that recognises the invaluable contributions of every woman.

“Come with us and make a difference — creating wealth together.”
