Zimbabwe is poised to boost its economy through a thriving mining industry, with the country now ranked among the top three African states with the largest reserves of lithium, while the recent discovery of natural gas and oil will add to the transforma­tion of the nation’s economic fortunes, President Mnangagwa has said.

The country is endowed with abundant mineral resources, ranging from gold, platinum and diamond to lithium, among others, which will play a critical role in making Zimbabwe an upper middle-income society by 2030.

Working in collaborat­ion with the family of the late national hero and liberation war commander, General Josiah Magama Tongogara, the Government will come up with strategies that will ensure his legacy lives on and is celebrated owing to the immeasurab­le contributi­on he made to the country’s liberation struggle.

Acting President Dr Constantin­o Chiwenga made the promise when he spoke at the National Heroes Acre yesterday during this year’s commemorat­ions of the death of the late ZANLA commander.

Thursday Government will invoke Statutory Instrument 1 of 2000 against schools that force parents and guardians to buy uniforms exclusivel­y from them.

Although the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has authorised schools to make and sell uniforms, it has made it clear that they should not pressure parents to buy uniforms exclusivel­y from them if there are more affordable options available.

Production at the Dinson Iron and Steel Company plant in Manhize, Mvuma, is expected to commence in February next year, with the company targeting to produce three iron and steel products by October.

Disco, which is a subsidiary of Chinese iron and steel giant Tsingshan Holdings, is constructi­ng a US$1,5 billion steel and iron plant in Manhize, approximat­ely 200km south of Harare.
