We owe our success to God

- Pauline Matanda

“NOT by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.” — Zechariah 4:6.

As we are coming to the end of 2023 and approaching 2024, this verse reminds us that it is not through our own strength or effort that we are achieving such a feat but God’s Spirit working in us.

No matter how hard we try using our own strength, it will never be enough. But when we rely on the Holy Spirit, God can accomplish amazing things through us. We are often tempted to rely on our own strength to do things, but the Bible reminds us that it is the Holy Spirit that works in us and through us to accomplish God’s purpose. We should never underestimate the power of the Holy Spirit to guide, comfort and strengthen us in the coming year.

With the numerous pressures we face in our lives, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. But God reminds us that our strength comes from Him, and that we should not rely on our own might.

We can trust that the Holy Spirit will give us the power we need to face whatever challenges come our way. Do you feel there are specific pressures in your life right now?

Let the Holy Spirit take that burden on your behalf. It is like a gentle wind that blows through our lives, bringing us new life and hope. We cannot see the wind, but we can see its effects as it transforms our hearts and minds. Let us trust in the Holy Spirit to guide us.

In the Bible, the Holy Spirit is often referred to as a helper or comforter. It is important to recognise the vital role the Holy Spirit plays in our lives. It is not about human effort, but surrendering to the Spirit and letting it work through us. I am excited to see the works of the Holy Spirit in this coming year.

John 14:15-17 reads: “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever — the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

This passage speaks of the Holy Spirit as a helper and advocate sent to us by God. As an advocate, the Holy Spirit will help administer justice on your behalf. He will speak for you. So, it is not your attempt that counts but the effort of the Holy Spirit, which has a track record of winning even complicated cases. What a powerful promise!

In 2024, let us embrace the ministry of the Holy Spirit and witness Him do the impossible in our lives. It is a year of walking in the Spirit. Life is spiritual. Whatever manifests in the physical starts in the spirit.
