Michael Magz soldiers on without Holy Ten

- Dennis Chimanzi Michael Magz

ZIM hip-hop sensation Michael Magondo, who is affectionately known as Michael Magz in the music industry, is ready to go it alone.

The fast-rising artiste, who says he was “thrown under the bus” by Holy Ten, is confident his career is going to blossom, “with or without Holy Ten”.

He said despite the setback, he is looking forward to working on even bigger projects this year.

“Parting ways with Holy Ten was a drawback. However, I believe it was also a blessing in disguise. I am now fully concentrating on my solo career,” he said.

Michael Magz rose to fame in 2023, when he collaborated with Holy Ten on the album “The New Bhundu Boyz”.

The project resulted in hit songs such as “Ucharamba Uchipisa” and “Mai Ju”.

Hitting the ground running, the aggressive singer has since released a new song titled “Hondo Mupfungwa”.

A video of the song has since been posted on YouTube, where it is garnering views.

In “Hondo Mupfungwa”, he sings about the depression he went through after his highly publicised fallout with Holy Ten.

“Apart from telling my story, the song intends to encourage people in difficult situations to soldier on,” he said.

The talented chanter says he draws inspiration from Baba Harare, who made his name after parting ways with his mentor — Jah Prayzah.

“When Baba Harare parted ways with his mentor, Jah Prayzah, many people laughed at him and told him that he had made a bad decision. Look at where he is now.”

“The same applies to me. When I moved away from Holy Ten, that is when I realised my full potential.

“I am the next big thing on the local music scene,” he vowed.

Tinashe Guvava, who manages Holy Ten’s affairs, wished Michael Magz well and pledged to work with him in future.

“We have no problem with him. We will always support him and when he needs us, the door is always open for him,” Guvava said.

He said Holy Ten and Michael Magz recently performed together.

This, according to Guvava, is a clear indication of the cordial relationship that still exists between the two artistes.

He also took time to explain the circumstances that led to the fallout.

“We removed Michael Magz’s name on the songs that were not his. Initially, we had included his name as a goodwill gesture to market his name,” he said.

Thomas Chizhanje, a social media personality, urged Michael Magz to focus on growing his own brand as opposed to relying entirely on Holy Ten.

“Michael Magz has the potential to become a top artiste. He is talented at both singing and producing. All he needs to do is to focus on his work and forget about other people,” Chizhanje said.
