THE low-density suburb of Avondale, in
Harare, is synonymous with modernity. There is a new addition to the shopping experience near Avondale Shopping Centre — the SheikhoMo Royal Village
— which was opened in 2017.
It is a beautiful sprawling centre built to modern-day standards which is able to handle a large number of people. A bold statement is made by the elegant king palm (roystonea regia) lining the boundary of the mall, while small edges of lawn help to create a great view.
Made to perfection by the corner is an excellent waterfall with a pond complimented by the tree fern (cyathea dregei) with an amazing collection of plants that were being attended to by Mr Regis Maswera and his team of gardeners.
They are keeping it in excellent shape and doing a fantastic job at it.
Exploring further into the mall, you will see a number of islands where succulents were planted since they help in conserving water.
A number of pots line the sides of the buildings to make a pleasing display.
The complex is full of surprises. You come across an island of beauty where a seating area was made out of a maze of cement benches and tables neatly arranged into an island of beauty facing one of the restaurants.
The island of beauty was carefully designed and fenced with a wooden fence, while the golden duranta was used as a hedge.
The SheikhoMo complex depicts how there is always room for plant life even in a concrete jungle.
There are many ways to green up your surrounds, no matter the limitations around your landscape. With a bit of thought and planning, excellent results can be achieved.
