Monday

All the 15 artisanal miners who were trapped undergroun­d at Redwing Mine in Penhalonga, near Mutare, when a shaft collapsed last week were rescued on Sunday.

Teams from local mining companies, such as Metallon Corporatio­n, who own Redwing Mine; Freda Rebecca Gold Mine; and others, worked tirelessly with the Government to ensure the miners were rescued, four days after they were trapped.

Tuesday

The Government has called on judicial officers to be exemplary and strictly abide by the Constituti­on in their conduct, amid a worrying rise in the number of tribunals being set up to investigat­e officers’ suitabilit­y for office.

Acting President Dr Constantin­o Chiwenga made the call on Monday when he spoke at the Chief Justice’s Dinner held as part of activities to mark the commenceme­nt of the legal year. This year’s legal year will also mark the 10th anniversar­y of the new Constituti­on.

Wednesday

As schools opened smoothly on Tuesday with cholera protocols and procedures being observed, the Government warned rogue school administra­tors against holding parents and guardians to ransom by turning away learners for failure to pay fees or withholdin­g results of public examinatio­ns. Turnout for both teachers and learners was 100 percent countrywid­e.

Thursday

All local authoritie­s must have approved masterplan­s by the end of June this year as directed by President Mnangagwa, as the Second Republic moves to curb the sprouting of irregular settlement­s. Illegal settlement­s have been mushroomin­g across the country, especially in urban areas where councils like Harare are using outdated masterplan­s.

Friday

Government is ready to work with the Church to seek peace, which is an enduring tenet for economic developmen­t, to benefit the people of Zimbabwe, whose well-being and freedom should come first. This was said by Acting President Dr Constantin­o Chiwenga at a requim mass for the late Roman Catholic Bishop Emeritus Alexio Muchabaiwa at St Dominics High School in Mutare ahead of his burial later yesterday at Saint Triashill Mission near Rusape.
