The sullied American model of democracy

- Dr Obert Moses Mpofu

Y Bfollowing America’s model of democracy, have we been worshiping on a false and sullied altar? If so, then such altars must be desecrated.

As Gaza bleeds, America is torn apart. Indeed, presidents from the“progressive democracies”seem to be warmongers and harbingers of chaos and death.

Let us remember that it is by former US president Barack Obama’s hand that one of our greatest leaders from Africa, Muammar Gaddafi, was murdered by mercenaries in broad daylight. At the instigation of America, Libya has become a forgotten wasteland.

It has been pillaged so much that the country stands no chance of ever recovering and regaining its former glory.

It, therefore, begs the question: How pure are the United States democrats and how is it that they claim to be the embodiment of democracy?

It does not take much to realise that if it were up to them, then all of us would have been wiped off the face of the earth.

The only excuse required is an abuse of “human rights accusation”.

I need not mention Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and a host of other countries that have greatly suffered at the hands of those bent on ensuring our eternal subjugation.

Will there be atonement for all the sins committed by the so-called proponents of democracy? Will our people get justice? Chances are this is highly unlikely. Our detractors are so influential that anyone who dares to oppose them is quickly done away with. By investing time in the American model of democracy, have we been worshipping false gods?

I am inclined towards affirming that indeed we have. Whatever reaction and action from the rest of the world with regard to the bloodletting in Gaza, this is a moment that the world’s morality will be truly tested.

The so-called fountain of “democracy”, which we thought for so long to be pure and the giver of life, is, in fact, contaminated. The Americans have contaminated the world with their holier-than-though approach.

Ukraine burns and it is all thanks to them. And now Palestine has been added to the list.

Only those with a true conviction to stand with the truth and a strong moral obligation for justice will make a difference in this world.

South Africa’s triumph at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is indeed a true testament of the fact that those who defend the truth and justice will always prevail. The odds are still against those who stand for justice.

Israel and America refuse to abide by the ICJ judgment and still continue their onslaught on Palestine unabated and with impunity. Who knows who will be next? It could be any of us.

Where America goes, death follows. Washington and her allies are indeed the Grim Reapers and the harbingers of death.

Whether by war, sanctions or use of international financial institutions, America has been able to cause the demise of one too many once great nations.

It seems self-determination and the desire to see one’s people succeed is the greatest criminal offence in the eyes of the detractors and is punishable by invasions, war and total destruction.

But we are wary of all these shenanigans. The six sister parties of the former liberation movements of Southern Africa — Chama Cha Mapinduzi, ZANU PF, ANC, SWAPO, MPLA and FRELIMO — have decided to strengthen their bond in defence of our liberation gains.

We are aware of attempts to divide us, but we will stand firm and defend ourselves from enemy attacks.

We will not be divided, for what binds us is more than what could ever separate us.

Our own democracy that we have built together with our people is what we should rely on going forward. We should not be lectured on this corrupted version of democracy that is soiled in the blood of innocent people. It is time for Africa to finally be heard as the enemy has now shown its true colours.
