An ideal place to relax
VISITING the EFE Securities branch in Avondale made one of my mornings very refreshing.
The company specialises in brokerage and advisory services.
Mr Edgeton Tsanga, the chief executive officer, is the inspiration behind the company’s garden that took my breath away.
He spoke about how the company enforces the picking up of litter, even on the boundary of the garden on Cork Road. The yard is tranquil and ideal for relaxing. Trees provide the much-needed shade in this summer heat.
As you enter the place, you will be greeted by colourful roses along a brick driveway fit for kings.
Inspiring African sculptures line the driveway, adding to the intrigue and mystery of the area.
A number of eye-catching shrubs such as the Ti plant (cordyline terminalis), schefflera arboricola, New Zealand flax (phormium tenax) and philodendron imbe are also present.
There is a well-positioned bench facing a fish pond, where the ornamental banana (ensete ventricosum) stands upright, providing variety to the vegetation. There are a number of palms that provide a tropical feel to the garden.
Much can be said about the weed-free green Durban lawn — a carpet fit for royalty.
A brick pathway is in place to facilitate tours of the garden, much to the delight of both visitors and employees.
To cap it all, a good specimen of the bird of paradise (strelitzia reginae) sits in a corner in bloom with its yellow bird-like flowers. The garden shows how important it is to choose the correct shade trees such as the cassia didymobotrya.
