Delta celebrates stellar growth, female leadership
WOMEN at Delta Corporation, Zimbabwe’s largest beverages maker, were recently celebrated for their leadership and key role in achieving a remarkable 40 percent market share for the company in the past three years.
At a recent glamorous event to recognise the achievements of Delta’s female staff, group chief executive officer Mr Matlhogonolo Valela acknowledged their significant contribution.
This growth coincides with the company setting new record volumes in production.
“This was a new record volume; volumes that have never been achieved in the history of the company,” he said.
He underscored the crucial role women play in the firm’s success.
“Despite the competition, hopefully we will stay the course.
“But what is more important is that our striker in the business, the person who leads sales in that division, is a lady and her complementary staff are women.
”The company, he said, was expanding its tentacles into the region, including introducing its popular Chibuku“Super” brand in South Africa.
And women are spearheading this regional expansion effort.“For our march into Africa (Zambia and South Africa), we have deployed ladies in those territories from Zimbabwe to go and impact those teams, and they are doing us proud in both countries,” he added.
“So, we are stepping it up.
“In South Africa, this week (last week), we will be rolling out a new Super line out of Phelandaba, supplying the entire country.
“We are taking base in Africa. In Zambia, we have already done well in trying to recover the business because ever since we bought it, we have been running at a loss.
“But by the end of last year, we were taking it out of the loss-making position and the business responded well.
“It is these women’s efforts and support in their various roles that delivered the results.
“This is why we felt this event should be more about them than anyone else; we celebrate our champions.
”Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Permanent Secretary Dr Mavis Sibanda paid tribute to Delta for celebrating its female staff.
“This is a pragmatic programme in our quest to achieve women empowerment and gender equality,”she said.“The achievements of the company, with the involvement of women in every department, are a signal to what women are capable of.
“This day is specially dedicated to all women for the recognition of their amazing works; it should motivate all of us to move out of our shells and show the world what we are capable of.”
