THE Government will continue promoting and defending the Zimbabwe dollar as it is crucial in boosting operations in industry, especially in the cooking oil sector, Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube has said.
Responding to questions from journalists on the sidelines of the 56th Session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development in Victoria Falls, Prof Ncube said the Government was committed to protecting the local currency despite its low circulation levels due to inflation.

President Mnangagwa has called on African countries to focus on internal resource mobilisation and an inclusive pro-people development philosophy that promotes cooperation among nations to attain the “Africa we want”.
The President said this in Victoria Falls on Monday while officially opening the 56th Session of the Conference of UNECA African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

As preparations for the 44th Southern African Development Community Summit to be hosted in Zimbabwe gather momentum, President Mnangagwa is confident the meeting will be a resounding success.
The President was responding to questions from journalists in Victoria Falls on Monday.

Nothing short of a prompt, unconditional and total removal of illegal economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the United States is acceptable and continued slanderous statements from Washington should be withdrawn immediately, the Government has said.

The food deficit mitigation programme is being extended to urban areas, in line with the Second Republic’s thrust of leaving no place and no one behind, legislators have heard.
