New Ford Everest a bold, capable SUV
LAST week, I had the opportunity to participate in Ford’s “Ride and Drive” experience in the Western Cape. Alongside journalists from nine different countries, I spent several days putting the new Ford Everest to the test on various terrains, both on and off-road. This experience provided a valuable insight into the capabilities and features of this impressive SUV, which is also available here in Zimbabwe.
Built for adventure
The new Everest’s striking presence, with a wider track and longer wheelbase contributing to a more muscular and progressive appearance, commands attention. The signature C-clamp headlights and strong horizontal grille bar showcase Ford’s global design DNA. However, the true transformation lies within.
Stepping inside the Everest reveals a sanctuary of comfort and refinement.
High-quality materials, premium finishes and ambient lighting create a quiet and inviting space for up to seven occupants. The spaciousness is further amplified by the full-width dashboard and centre console, offering ample storage space and convenient features like integrated wireless charging and a sleek new electronic shifter.
Ford prioritised flexibility and convenience with features like second-row seats that slide further forward, allowing for easier access to the third row.
Ample storage compartments and charging outlets throughout the cabin cater for the needs of all passengers. The second and third rows fold flat, creating a versatile cargo space for long loads.
Technology at your fingertips
The new Everest boasts the latest in connectivity and technology. Replacing traditional gauges, the XLT features an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, while the Limited upgrades to a captivating 12.4-inch version.
Both models offer high-resolution touchscreens, with the XLT sporting a 10-inch portrait screen and the Limited boasting a larger 12-inch unit.
Ford’s SYNC® 4A system takes centre stage, offering voice-activated communication, entertainment and information systems. Wireless smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ensures seamless connectivity.
The Limited’s portrait screen is further enhanced by a 360-degree camera system, aiding in tight parking situations and off-road navigation.
Proven performance and engineered for adventure
In response to customer demands for power and torque, Ford equips the new Everest with its refined 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine.
This engine delivers 154kW of power and a hefty 500Nm of torque, proving ideal for towing, carrying heavy loads and tackling challenging terrain. The engine is paired with Ford’s advanced 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, offering a smooth and responsive driving experience.
To further enhance its off-road capabilities, the new Everest features a 50mm wider track for improved handling, revised damper settings for a more controlled ride and a choice of two four-wheel drive systems.
Under-body protection, selectable drive modes, a rear locking differential and two functional tow hooks upfront equip the Everest for adventures off the beaten path.
Confidence-inspiring safety features
The new Everest prioritises passenger safety with a comprehensive suite of driver-assist technologies. The Limited model features Ford’s latest-generation adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane centering, ensuring a relaxed and focused driving experience.
Additional features include lane keeping system, pre-collision assist with dynamic brake support, and more, offering peace of mind on any journey.
