- Sunday Mail Reporter

CABINET will this week consider a detailed roll-out plan for the revised school curriculum that was recently adopted by the Government, paving the way for implementation of the new education syllabus framework next year.

Once approved by Cabinet, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will undertake a comprehensive programme to educate stakeholders, including teachers, parents and learners, about the demands and expectations of the updated curriculum.

The revised framework seeks to equip learners with skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the 21st-century job market.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail, Primary and Secondary Education Permanent Secretary Mr Moses Mhike said the implementation matrix will be tabled before Cabinet this week.

“The implementation matrix proposal is currently awaiting Cabinet approval and will be presented for consideration next week (this week),” he said.

“Once approved, we will be able to share the implementation details with stakeholders in the education sector.”

Mr Mhike said teachers will soon undergo training, while a public awareness campaign will be launched to inform stakeholders about the revised curriculum.

“As we move forward, we will engage with our constituents and stakeholders in the education sector to raise awareness about the new curriculum.

“Additionally, we will provide teacher training programmes and inform parents and industrialists about the new direction so that we can all move forward together,” he added. Meanwhile, the Government is planning to set up about 800 school computer laboratories this year.

Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Tatenda Mavetera said: “The authority (Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe), in partnership with its parent ministry, commenced a programme that it has dubbed ‘A computer laboratory for every school’, where it is establishing computer laboratories fully equipped with ICT gadgets and internet connectivity.

“This year, the authority has plans to deploy 800 computer laboratories.

“Each lab will be equipped with 30 computers. So far, the authority has set up 24 computer laboratories at institutions of learning since January 2024.

“A further 60 schools are set to benefit during this quarter.”
