Mash Central upbeat over new Parly access roads

- Fungai Lupande

MASHONALAND Central will never be the same again, as the province is set to immensely benefit from ongoing works to rehabilitate Bindura Road, where access routes to the new Parliament building in Mt Hampden are being constructed.

Bindura Road is the major gateway to Mashonaland Central.

It also connects to Harare and Mt Hampden, as well as the Kanyemba and Mukumbura borders with Zambia and Mozambique, respectively. Currently, construction of the eight-lane seven-kilometre boulevard stretching from Bindura Road to the new Parliament building is at an advanced stage.

The Government has since directed contractors to complete the works by June.

Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Christopher Magomo said the province is grateful for the rehabilitation of Bindura Road.

“The upgrading and dualisation of Bindura Road to the new Parliament building in Mt Hampden, which is being done by the Government, are an exciting and positive development for Mashonaland Central,” he said.

“Dualisation of the road into eight lanes will decongest the tollgate at Eastgate and trigger the upgrading of the rest of the road up to our provincial capital, Bindura, and other parts of our province.”

Several other key roads, he said, are also being developed in the province.

“We have the Nyakasikana Road, which is an important link to Karanda Mission Hospital. That road is now complete and awaits commissioning.”

Completion of Ndoda Hondo Road is on the cards and is expected to spur development at the Mukumbura Border Post.
