ZANU PF has no dog in the internal squabbles tearing the country’s opposition apart but will gladly capitalise on the fracas to entrench its dominance, President Mnangagwa said.

In an exclusive interview with “Brick by Brick” magazine, the President said he finds the fights in the opposition amusing.

Tuesday

Zimbabwean­s should continue to discuss Gukurahund­i “openly” and “accept and understand” what happened during the dark period in the country’s history to ensure such events will not happen again, President Mnangagwa has said.

In February 2019, the President embarked on an initiative to facilitate the resolution of Gukurahund­i through an internal and home-grown process that would invite the participat­ion of affected communitie­s, as well as maintain and strengthen national unity among Zimbabwean­s.

Wednesday

Zimbabwean­s will be the primary beneficiar­ies of recent oil and gas discoverie­s in Muzarabani, Mashonalan­d Central province, and to this end, the Second Republic is in the process of establishi­ng mechanisms to ensure the country derives maximum value from its mineral wealth, President Mnangagwa has said.

This follows the recent confirmati­on by Geo Associates of gas, light oil and helium deposits.

Thursday

The backing of Zimbabwe’s currency by gold and other strategic mineral reserves is reflective of the Second Republic’s determinat­ion to ensure the country’s natural resources are leveraged on to advance sustainabl­e economic independen­ce and sovereignt­y, President Mnangagwa has said.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe last week unveiled the country’s new currency — Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) — as part of several policy measures to address exchange rate volatility, curtail inflation and restore macro-economic stability.

Friday

Sustainabl­e economic developmen­t can only be achieved through use of a local currency that will stimulate growth and guarantee stability, President Mnangagwa has said. This follows last week’s introducti­on of the Zimbabwe Gold currency that is backed by gold, cash and other precious minerals.
