Uhuru clash excites Buhera

THE Independence Cup clash between Dynamos and Highlanders at the Murambinda B High School grounds in Buhera on Thursday has excited villagers, who cannot wait to watch the two giants in action.

The match comes to Murambinda as part of the 44th independence anniversary.

Patience Dura, who played for the Murambinda B High School senior football team in 2010, said hosting Dynamos and Highlanders to Murambinda would be huge.

“This will leave a big mark in our area in terms of football and other developments,” he said.

“The young and aspiring football players in our area will benefit more as they are set to be inspired by watching the two big teams play.

“This is good for sports in our area and we cannot wait for the day of the match. Everyone is anticipating this important day.”

Trust Gwara said he was in high spirits as he anticipated watching his favourite players from the two teams.

“It’s good they have brought high-level soccer to our rural area,”he said.

“We are going to be seeing our favourite players for the first time. We are used to seeing them on television and in newspapers.”

Gwara’s friend, Themba Sibanda, who is from Chief Gwebu’s area near Murambinda,

said he would be happy to watch his beloved team, Highlanders, in action.

“People under Chief Gwebu are of Ndebele origin; they migrated and settled in Buhera, so we have a connection with Highlanders since it is based in Bulawayo, where you find more Ndebele speakers,” he said.

“You can imagine how people here feel to have Highlanders playing in Buhera.”

Richard Mapasure, who was a leading soccer player for Murambinda B High School in 2000 and a well-known boozers player in the area, said he was excited by the rare opportunity of watching Dynamos and Highlanders play in Murambinda.

“We never imagined that we would watch these two teams in our area,”he said.

“Tell me again that it is true that Dynamos and Highlanders are coming to Murambinda on Thursday. This is good for football and our area.”

Faith Nkomanazana, who hails from Bulawayo but is married in Chief Gwebu’s area, said the match will remind her of the carnival atmosphere that used to engulf Barbourfields Stadium whenever the two teams met.

“I remember the old days when I was still living in Bulawayo before I got married and came to live here,” she said.

“I am very grateful to the Government for exhibiting these two big teams in Buhera and I will be there to watch the match.”
