A danger to his own people

-

DONALD Trump’s bravado on leaving hospital must have made Americans mad. Without a hint of irony he tells the American people not to fear Covid-19. "Don't be afraid of COVID," he says.

"I feel better than I did 20 years ago!"

Meanwhile more than 210,000 of his compatriots have perished due to it and more than 7 million have been infected and still counting.

e United States has the highest number of infections of any country in the world.

Here is the irony: one of the drugs administered on Trump, Remdesivir will cost US$3,120 for the typical patient with private insurance in US hospitals according to manufacturer Gilead Sciences.

e other two drugs that helped “heal” him are not available to the common people. Regeneron's experimental antibody therapy has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration so can’t be used on the general public.

Trump only got it because he is the president of the United States.

Trump was also given five doses of dexamethasone costing about US$19 each. Dexamethasone is readily available but not recommended because it suppresses the immune system.

Most Americans do not have ready access to testing and when they do the results don’t come very quickly.

e majority

Americans doesn’t get round the clock expert care that Trump gets yet he tells them to be not afraid.

He was still contagious when he left hospital that means we will never know how many people he passed the virus to before, during and after hospitalisation.

Because of his reckless response to the coronavirus since its onset it will be difficult to quantify how much he has cost the American taxpayer; it must go into trillions.

is for a man who paid US$750 in taxes last year and the year before; a billionaire who has been evading paying his taxes for years.

e leader of the most powerful nation in the world is a danger to his own people.
