Emcoz backs Youth programme

THE Skills For Youth Employment And Rural Developmen­t Programme seeks to create jobs for youths in Zimbabwe’s Urban and Rural communitie­s.

‘e project adopted a tripartite approach in its implementa­tion, this social partnershi­p comprises of business represente­d by ‘e Employers’ Confederat­ion of Zimbabwe (Emcoz), Labour represente­d by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) and the Government of Zimbabwe.

‘e Government of Zimbabwe represente­d by the Ministry of Youth, Indigeniza­tion and Economic Empowermen­t & the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.

‘e project targeted 15-35 year old youths in both Rural & Urban communitie­s. ‘e project aims were to achieve a fair gender compositio­n in the youth beneficiar­ies (i.e. 50% men: 50% women).

‘ere is the Training for Rural Economic Empowermen­t ( TREE) and Quality Improvemen­ts in Apprentice­ship (QIA)

‘e TREE component targets Rural Youths and has worked with youth in;

‘e QIA component is targeting Urban Youths, and has worked with youth in:

‘e project ran from 2010 to 2014 and presented an opportunit­y for business and educationa­l organisati­ons to partner in the following areas:

Raw materials — to provide raw materials to the youth groups

Training — to provide training to the youths

Employment — to provide employment for some of the trained youth.

Markets — to provide a market where the finished products can be sold.

Emcoz encouraged companies to partner with the project for the following reasons:

Reduce unemployme­nt; this project has the measurable aim of creating 4000 jobs.

Reduce poverty in marginalis­ed communitie­s; ‘e project was working with youths in marginalis­ed communitie­s, with project partners who were helping to alleviate poverty in Zimbabwe’s marginalis­ed communitie­s.

‘e Internatio­nal Labour Organisati­on is a reputable internatio­nal institutio­n which will not abuse your investment,

It was the “right thing to do”; It provided an opportunit­y for business to give back to the community they operated in.
