Emcoz backs Youth programme
THE Skills For Youth Employment And Rural Development Programme seeks to create jobs for youths in Zimbabwe’s Urban and Rural communities.
e project adopted a tripartite approach in its implementation, this social partnership comprises of business represented by e Employers’ Confederation of Zimbabwe (Emcoz), Labour represented by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) and the Government of Zimbabwe.

e Government of Zimbabwe represented by the Ministry of Youth, Indigenization and Economic Empowerment & the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.
e project targeted 15-35 year old youths in both Rural & Urban communities. e project aims were to achieve a fair gender composition in the youth beneficiaries (i.e. 50% men: 50% women).
ere is the Training for Rural Economic Empowerment ( TREE) and Quality Improvements in Apprenticeship (QIA)
e TREE component targets Rural Youths and has worked with youth in;

e QIA component is targeting Urban Youths, and has worked with youth in:

e project ran from 2010 to 2014 and presented an opportunity for business and educational organisations to partner in the following areas:
Raw materials — to provide raw materials to the youth groups
Training — to provide training to the youths
Employment — to provide employment for some of the trained youth.
Markets — to provide a market where the finished products can be sold.
Emcoz encouraged companies to partner with the project for the following reasons:

Reduce unemployment; this project has the measurable aim of creating 4000 jobs.
•
Reduce poverty in marginalised communities; e project was working with youths in marginalised communities, with project partners who were helping to alleviate poverty in Zimbabwe’s marginalised communities.
