Architectural visualiser Gilvan Isbiro has been learning about 3D art for 10 years, and in that time he’s made some inspirational contacts. “The idea to create this image came when a friend of mine, Yasser Elkhodeiry, was working on another personal project,” the Brazilian-based artist explains. “He was looking for references of dirty streets and came across an image of abandoned and destroyed cars. I liked this idea and decided to make something similar.”

The lifelike 3D artwork of Mark Denko also influenced the recently completed Cemetery of Cars. “I especially like the amount of detail he packs into his scenes,” explains Gilvan. “I also admire the way he works materials and how realistic his scenes look.” Reaching a similar standard of detail was Gilvan’s proudest achievement while working on this piece. “I’m also pleased with how I worked the material of the cars as I mixed them,” he says.

Gilvan used a lot of blend materials and two vertex paint modifiers to make the shade of the cars, while Multiscatter plug-ins created the ground and some of the leaves on the cars. “To make the materials of the cars themselves, I used Blend and the Vertex Paintmodifier,” he concludes.
