Perfect partnership
The longstanding collaboration between contemporary designer Charles Wilson and King Living has resulted in a series of iconic and effortless design pieces.
For close to a decade, King Living has worked with eminent contemporary designer Charles Wilson to produce a suite of outstanding and original design pieces that include beautifully bespoke sofas, armchairs, ottomans, side tables and lighting.
The journey started in 2013 with the launch of the iconic Seymour chair. Inspired by style legend Tom Ford’s directorial debut The Single Man, the Seymour chair exudes a classic opulence, offering incredible flexibility in its generous seat design. It is a statement piece that has stood the test of time and is still as popular today as it was at its conception.
In 2016, combining Wilson’s visionary approach to creating design solutions and King Living’s history of innovation in modular sofa technology, the Zaza was born. The Zaza is a supremely elegant design piece with a sleek, organic form, deep seats and soft lines that belie a fully modular format and ingenious functionality. Today, it remains one of King Living’s most exquisitely designed pieces in the collection.
In April 2018, Charles was one of twenty-six Australian designers selected to show at Local Milan, an annual design exhibition presented during Milan Design Week by Local Design. The largest independent showcase of Australian designers and makers ever to be held in the Italian design capital, last year’s Local Milan exhibition marked the international debut of Charles Wilson’s Solifiore lighting collection for King Living.
Solifiore comprises three unique, sculptural floor lamps – Gymea, Protea and Arum – suitably named for their botanical-inspired form. Coloured handblown glass heads sit atop slender bronze stems of varying heights, which are seamlessly fixed to conical concrete bases. An innovative control mechanism is built into the stem, allowing the lights to be turned off and on or dimmed by touch.
As the extraordinary partnership between Charles Wilson and King Living continues to flourish with new collaborations on the horizon, we are eager to see what the future holds for these two iconic Australian designs.
