Kambri Lobby Bar by Ricci Bloch
Ricci Bloch has designed a lobby bar for the new Kambri precinct at Australian National University in Canberra, comprising six buildings designed by BVN. The bar is located within the culture and events centre, home to a 500-seat auditorium, cinema and theatre. The practice was given a brief for a bar that did not overpower the architecture, but looked simple and elegant while creating a sense of intimacy in the double-height foyer space. It also needed to be designed so that the space could be shared by students. Taking cues from the facade of the building and Ancient Greek columns, the bar is distinctive for its fluted cladding. It takes the form of a monolithic element carved into the space. Photography — Anne Stroud
