Shelter by Esoteriko
◄ Within a dilapidated former restaurant, in the back lanes of Sydney’s Double Bay, interior architecture firm Esoteriko has created an “unexpected sanctuary” that combines four distinct yet interrelated wellness programs: ice baths, saunas, a gym and a spa. Esoteriko’s design for the space, dubbed Shelter, prioritizes a simple organization and a restrained material palette. An Australian vernacular is established – light textures, gum trees, and a verandah out the front – and the oftenharsh northern sun is mediated by simple timber screens, throwing soft dappled light throughout. The pink hues of fragrant cedar delicately balance with the cool reflections of finished stainless steel and textural hand-cut white tiles. Warm grey concrete floors unite the spaces, set against a backdrop of white-painted timber and highlights of textured orange granite. Photography — Tom Ferguson Esoteriko — esoteriko.org
