Armadillo and Co showroom by Studio Goss

-

▲ Armadillo and Co’s first Australian retail space is located in a 385-square-metre building in Surry Hills, Sydney that appears to be more gallery than showroom. The luxury rug company tasked David Goss of Melbourne firm Studio Goss to design a space that would foster interactions and experiences on a personal level. Goss’s design seeks to echo the “simple and beautiful” textures of Armadillo and Co’s rugs; it takes inspiration from Le Corbusier’s designs for the Indian city of Chandigarh, employing a bold concrete palette tempered with shifts in texture and shadow. Natural coir matting and solid white oak furniture tie the material palette together, and the rugs are artfully displayed in the space so as to show the multitude of ways rugs can “lie lightly.” Furniture, lighting and other fittings are from JSB Lighting, Eco Outdoor, Havwoods, Space and Daniel Rybakken.
