Dux Coffee by Pierce Widera
◥ Situated in a hidden arcade in an inner city suburb of Melbourne, this minuscule shop boasts a big personality. At only 24 square metres, it is higher than it is deep, exposing its history: old rafters, clerestory windows, a pressed metal ceiling and rich copper facade detail hidden behind layers of dust. Pierce Widera chose to embrace this history in its design narrative. The floor has been restored, the pressed metal repaired and the copper detailing acidcleaned. The focal point of the space is the monolithic concrete bar. Apart from hosting the coffee machine, with all its accessories, the bar sits confidently in front of the bagged brick wall and incorporates a generous glass pastry display.
