Stone and Wood Brewery by Harley Graham Architects
The new home for Byron Bay company Stone and Wood has been designed as both a gateway brewery and a meeting place, which combines the function of everyday distilling with a “cellar door” experience for the public. The purpose-built premise combines spaces for the brewers, maintenance staff, office, marketing teams, sales and management, and gathering spaces for the general public. The brief was to have more than one building and to create a campus feel with a central courtyard that could be enjoyed by visitors and staff, as well as used for events. The design revisits the notion of the Australian shed. A steel and custom truss structure “deconstructs” as it opens up to the north where an internal courtyard defines the entry.
