Lava Cafe by Avanti Design

In designing Lava Cafe in Kingston in Canberra, Avanti Design wanted to translate the tactility, weight and sensation of an excellent cup of coffee into an interior space. An astute attention to detail and materiality can be seen in the custom venetian plastered walls, quarter-cut Victorian ash timber details, bench seating and custom concrete benchtops with fluted details. The palette and colour story is robust and restrained, taking inspiration from Japanese and Scandinavian minimalism, and provides an arena for shadow play and negative spaces.
