Amur River
Once home to over 120 freshwater fish species, including the famous Kaluga sturgeon (Huso dauric), 20 indigenous species of carp & broadhead and seven species of migratory salmon, the Amur’s pollution is severely threatening the river’s aquatic life. The kaluga, a large predatory sturgeon native to the Amur, is listed as “Endangered” on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Due to overfishing and water pollution, the kaluga is now virtually extinct in the Songhua and Ussuri-Wusuli Rivers.
