Hakama Japan

A garment with seven pleats (five in front and two at the back) that looks like wide pleated trousers or a skirt depnding on the style. It is worn over a kimono and is usually made in solid colours or in very fine patterns in men’s formal wear. Traditiona­lly a form of menswear, hakama is also worn by women as formal wear or for martial arts. There are different styles of hakama; the type worn by today’s martial artists – with “legs” – is called a joba hakama.
