5. Iconic Minimoog three-oscillator bass

-

1 Let’s create a Minimoog-style threeoscillator bass using Arturia’s MiniV 3. Here’s we’ve called up the 1 Osc patch from the factory Templates. It’s a thin, weedy sound, to be sure! We’ll start in the Mixer section, where we’ll toggle in all three oscillators On and bring their Volume levels up. It’s not a very pleasant sound, as our third oscillator isn’t in tune.

2 Let’s go over to the Oscillator Bank and use the orange rocker switch in the lower-left to switch in Osc 3 Ctrl. Now our third oscillator should be in line with the rest. Next, let’s use the three Waveform knobs to select sawtooth waveforms for each oscillator (as above). We’ll set the Range of Oscillators 1 and 3 to 32' and Oscillator 2 to 16'. 3 We’ll detune Oscillators 2 and 3 slightly. Now, we’ll go to the Filter section, where we’ll crank the Cutoff

Frequency all the way down. We want the filter envelope (called Contour in Moog-speak) to open the filter, so turn the

Amount Of Contour knob up to around 9. Next, set the Filter Contour’s Decay Time to around 490ms. 4 The filter Contour’s Sustain should be set to around 6.8. Now to the Loudness Contour, where we’ll set the

Decay Time to around 1000ms and crank the Sustain down to 0. The Minimoog could route the output back through the filter for an overdriven sound. Nudge the

External Input Volume knob up to just under 2, and set the blue rocker switch to the middle position.
